Posh Plushies Give Away

June 7, 2009

I am so excited to say that I was the winner of the posh plushies blog give away!!  Marie is sending me some amazing things and I couldn’t be happier! I am one of those people who feel like I never win anything like this.  I guess I can’t say that anymore though!  Marie makes wonderful little plush critters and whimsical houses in pincushion and keychain form, as well as some beautiful paper crafts.  If you are interested in any goods like that, please check her out on Etsy!  Have you entered any blog contests lately?  There are always so many good ones during the year.  I would love to participate next time!

So, I know, this blog is mostly supposed to be about crafting!  But, I am so in love with this new work out routine, I thought I would share it with you, world!  It is called Crossfit and maybe some of you have heard of it!  I first was introduced by My Aim is True.  The program is a combination of olympic and power lifting, and gymnastics.  Each work out, Work Out of the Day (WOD), is posted daily and is very intense and very short, about 20 min.  We do lots of exercises like push ups, pull ups, squats, and situps.  We run, and row and do box jumps.  Somedays we just power lift, or do sets of Olympic lifts.  I have been doing this for about 2 months now and I have never been in such good shape, not even when I was power lifting or running 7 miles everyday for years.

At first I thought the workouts looked too intense, and that I could never do it.  But one day I check out the WOD and it looked manageable.  So I tried and it was VERY hard.  But I kept doing the workout each day and I was totally hooked.  I have never been stronger or faster.  Plus if you can’t do something, you can use less weight or modify it until you can do the real thing.  Plus the workouts usually take about 20 – 40 minutes, so I am in and out of the gym within an hour!  The best part is that all this is free on Crossfit.com

To fully appreciate the intense-ness that is crossfit, you have to check out some of these videos!

Crossfit has done wonders for me and I would def recommend it!  So check it out yinz! =]

Recent Plush Projects

Usually, I am making clothes or possibly quilting.  However, just this weekend the mood struck me to make some cuddly little felt and fleece creatures.  I was browsing Etsy and found this adorable dragon pattern.  I surely needed to make this!  So I bought the pattern and the supplies the next day.  But the urge to sew something small and cuddly needed to be satisfied immediately!  So I whipped up this cute little sugar skull pin cushion.

Sugar Skull

I love sugar skulls!  I love to use human anatomy in my art, especially skeletons, and the bright colors of sugar skulls fit my tastes perfectly!  I think it turned out pretty nice, what do you think?

The next day I assembled my supplies into Yoki:

I really have to recommend any patterns by DIY Fluffies.  She was so easy to work with and the pattern came together very easy!  Does anyone have any plushie patterns they love?

Haymarket Square

May 23, 2009

Hi and welcome to Meats Making a Comeback!  This is where I will talk about things I love like, crafting, sewing, cooking, DIY, thrifting, and maybe a little bit of shopping – Enjoy!

Today I ventured into Haymarket square!  For those of you non-bostonians, Haymarket is the place to buy ridiculously cheap produce from merchants set up in tents along the street.  It is not a farmers market.  Merchants get produce very discounted that is too ripe to sell to grocery stores.  The result is produce that might not last too long in your fridge, but is incredibly cheap.  I am talking 3lbs of strawberries for $1, or 3lbs of on the vine tomatoes for $1!  It is very fun also, as there are many stalls and many people and many things to look at!   There is also fish, meat and cheese for sale.  I was a little skeptical about the meat, but I got some great gruyere for 9$/lb!

Here is what I got for 7$

Haymarket Haul

3lbs strawberries

3lbs tomatoes

3 green peppers

1 giant bag of pre-peeled garlic

1 head of lettuce

Crazy! I know!  What outdoor markets do you like to enjoy in the summer?
